“A master colourist, Toni's exquisitely constructed compositions bring a jolt of ebullience, vitality and fashionable panache to their surroundings, delighting the eye by darting between boldly expressive and more muted painterly rhythms.”
– Michael Reid Northern Beaches Gallery
Meet Toni
My work investigates colour, texture, and gesture as forces that go beyond traditional representation, engaging with ideas of embodiment, materiality, and intra-action.
Born in Aotearoa New Zealand and now based in Naarm Melbourne, I am an emerging visual artist focusing on layered, abstract mixed-media painting.

About this work
This painting unfolds through the entangled forces of body, pigment, support, and space. Working without a fixed image, colour moves as an embodied force—spilling, resisting, responding to the gestures that shape it. Marks accumulate through an intra-active process where meaning emerges not from expression, but from the interplay of materials and affect.
The image extends beyond the stretcher bars and sits on top of the frame, drawing attention to the edges as zones of leakage and continuation. Here, the boundary between artwork and world is troubled—colour refuses containment, and form becomes a site of becoming.
This work is from the Untitled (Becoming) series, exhibited at Brunswick Street Gallery in 2026.
